Benefits of Eating a Freshly Prepared Homemade Meal

We have all heard our mothers tell us at one point or the other that we should be grateful for the “ghar ka khana” while we still have the luxury of having it, without worrying about the whole process that result in such healthy, hearty and heavenly meals.  But today, when the metros are brimming with professionals working round the clock, trying to earn the big bucks, we have shelved the idea of a fresh-scrumptious homemade meal, and with that the goal of a healthy body and mind.  The adverse effects of doing so may not be evident right away but this one is going to raise its ugly head in the future for sure! So today I am going to list out few of the innumerable benefits of a Freshly Prepared Homemade Meal-

  1. Hygiene- most of us make a point to have a clean environment in which our food is cooked. Whether it is to do with vegetables washed and cleaned properly before cutting or clean utensils and kitchen area in general. But we risk this aspect of a nutritious meal when we eat out. One can never be sure of the hygiene and cleanliness levels while eating out.
  2. Money that is spent while eating out- while it does not pinch one’s pocket if done occasionally but when done almost on a daily basis it is not only harmful for your health but on that bank account as well! You will be surprised on how much you save if you take that tiffin packed from home to the office daily.
  3. Fresh juices VS canned/store brought- well this one’s a no brainer actually. We all know how a fresh juice trumps the canned one any day but also the juice corner that promises a healthy freshly prepared juice. Most of us miss the extra sugar and the unwanted water (source questionable!) that is often added to these juices to make them more desirable on the taste buds and economically viable for the juice corner as well. Now, won’t you just take out 5 mins from that busy schedule of yours and squeeze some juicy goodness!
  4. Same oil used for cooking/frying stuff- this cardinal sin is so widely committed in Indian eateries that even when we know it’s being done right in front of us we just look the other way and munch on those samosas anyway. But needless to say oil which is reused again and again for frying is as unhealthy as it gets for those arteries and heart/cholesterol problems.
  5. Oils used in restaurants and eateries are often laden with trans fats that lead to diseases like high blood pressure, heart problems and weight issues. This can be easily monitored when one cooks with the right oil using the right quantities at home.
  6. Homemade food is more nutritious as compared to outside food due to many factors; one is to do with the quantities of food prepared. Food prepared in huge batches takes more time to be cooked therefore decreasing the nutritional value of that meal. Also, at home one is in control of how much oil and spices are being used in the food thereby turning out a more balanced and nutritious meal
  7. A homemade meal can always be made keeping in mind the needs and tastes of the individuals, be it related to health problems that may require less oil being used or tolerance levels to spicy food or any other preferences. These might not always be fulfilled while eating out.
  8. Use of fresh and good quality ingredients is a must to a healthy meal. This will not always be true when eating out. Many times the quality of vegetables, spices and other ingredients may be compromised for monetary benefits but while cooking at home we make sure that we use only the fresh and healthy stuff.

Last but not the least! The satisfaction that you get after eating a homemade meal prepared with not just good quality and healthy ingredients but with heart and soul is unrivaled… And I am sure that “Ghar ka Khana “tops the list of our most wonderful food related memories, at least mine does!
